A stand-up comedian, writer, producer and actor, Sarah Silverman tackles controversial topics with irony and humour.
Many comic actors have gone on record as being the victims of an insidious disease – depression. In an October 13, 2015 article in Glamour magazine Silverman shared her experiences in her battle with depression and panic attacks.
There’s much more to Silverman than her illness, though. She is a multi-talented woman who started her career writing in the 1990s for Saturday Night Live, and then the HBO program Mr. Show with Bob and David. She has been nominated five times for The Primetime Emmy, winning in 2013 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, and in 2008 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. In 2015 she was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Comedy Album category.
Also in 2015, she starred in the drama I Smile Back, for which she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. It was a gutsy move on her part, I think, given the film deals with a young mother suffering from depression.
